Trying to keep up with reading and writing the reviews - while getting more great books.

On the northwest side of Chicago, Ruby has a perfect life. Her family feeds her everyday, they are home with her all the time, and they allow her to patrol the backyard. What more could a dog ask for? But when Ruby meets Ortis the blue bunny, all of this changes. In order to help Ortis return to his home in The Six Realms, Ruby must jump into the family's pool with the rabbit. Ruby never expected anything to happen. But when the water started swirling and pulled her under, there was nothing the little dog could do. Now Ruby is in Rocia, one of the Six Realms underneath the earth. This new land is fraught with dangers at every corner, from hideous Crites to the ball-like Ozzixites. But something else has been silently pulling strings from inside the Diamond Dust Desert. An evil, older than the world itself, has begun its plans. The fate of the Six Realms and Ruby's home in the world above is at stake. Now, Ruby must brave these strange new lands to save everything she holds dear.

A radical fundamentalist will stop at nothing to create a global Caliphate, a Muslim Empire. The world-s safety rests on American Steve Church, a businessman recruited by the CIA as a reluctant undercover operative.

Mysterious and sexy, Maximillian Holt moves into Jamie Swift's life like a steamroller. She's the owner of a small town newspaper and he's a notorious, brilliant billionaire--what could they possibly have in common? Apparently quite a lot, for besides their mutual affection for Max's airhead sister Deedee and his investment in Jamie's struggling business, they share an explosive sexual chemistry. Unfortunately, Jamie's already engaged to be married. But when someone sprays her office with gunfire, only Max can save her. Now she'll have to rely on him to sort out the tangle of embezzlement, mayhem, and attempted murder that threatens her bucolic world of Beaumont, South Carolina. But if they unravel the mysteries and manage to stay alive, is there any hope for a shared future between a cosmopolitan guy committed to tracking down evil and a small-town girl who just wants a normal life?

Giveaway - A - Day Week - Tuesday - The Tailor of Panama(Ends 5/18)

Today is day 3 of a week of giving away a book a day.

The synopsis of the book:
A delightfully dishy novel about the all-time most impossible boss in the history of John le Carré, the greatest spy novelist of the Cold War era, continues his post-Cold War quest to define the genre he helped perfect. The classic spy novel was essentially a story of good (England, the United States) vs. evil (Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union), in which good more or less prevailed. The Tailor of Panama is something else entirely: a spy novel with no spies in which the bad guys reap most of the rewards. It is also a viciously funny satire. The novel is set in Panama, where a plot is in place to make void the Panama Treaty, which would return control of the Panama Canal to the Panamanians in 1999. At the center of events is Harry Pendel, the tailor of the title. Coerced into working for British Intelligence, he concocts out of whole cloth a left-wing movement with the goal of luring the American military to do the dirty work--invade Panama à la 1989 and nullify the treaty. From the characters to the setting, le Carré has succeeded in setting new parameters for an old genre. [close]

Giveaway - A - Day Week - Monday- The Devil Wears Prada (Ends 5/17)

Today I'm starting a week of giving away a book a day. Some are books I've read and love, some will be books I haven't read. This book is one that I read and found funny and a fast read. I love the movie also

The synopsis o the book:
A delightfully dishy novel about the all-time most impossible boss in the history of impossible bosses.

Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job “a million girls would die for.” Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of Runway magazine, Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn, a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants that show off their lifelong dedication to the gym. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared, whimpering child.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to complaints about “The Boss from Hell.” Narrated in Andrea’s smart, refreshingly disarming voice, it traces a deep, dark, devilish view of life at the top only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the trendiest cocktail parties. From sending the latest, not-yet-in-stores Harry Potter to Miranda’s children in Paris by private jet, to locating an unnamed antique store where Miranda had at some point admired a vintage dresser, to serving lattes to Miranda at precisely the piping hot temperature she prefers, Andrea is sorely tested each and every day—and often late into the night with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not the job is worth the price of her soul.

1)become a follower or let me know you already are
2)please leave your email address so that I can contact you if you win.

Giveaway - A - Day Week - Sunday - The Warlock Wandering (Ends 5/16)

Today I'm starting a week of giving away a book a day. Some are books I've read and love, some will be books I haven't read. This book is one that I haven't read - I'm not a SciFi reader ( I leave that to my brother). This is a book he already had read, so I'm putting up this one up for grabs.

Here is a synopsis of the book:

On the magical planet Gramarye, 500 years from their own time, Rod and Gwen Gallowglass are held captive in an alternative universe--a world where purple-skinned, fur-kilted men challenge them in primitive battle. Lost within time and space, and unable to communicate with the combative natives, Rod and Gwen must fight for their freedom and survival.

Review:

Single mom Lizabeth Kane isn't exactly carpenter material -- she's never picked up a hammer in her life. But she desperately needs the construction job that builder Matt Hallahan is offering. And even though he knows trouble is ahead, Matt can't refuse Lizbeth's irresistible smile.

Matt Hallahan isn't exactly relationship material -- he has always been too busy working on other people's houses to make a home of his own. And even though she knows better, Lizabeth can't stop thinking about the rugged carpenter.

Is the relationship Matt and Lizabeth are building solid -- or more like a house of card

Does this sound like a good read - I certainly enjoyed it.

I'm giving this book away.

Generation after generation, through happy times and sad, this Irish-American family passes on the gift of its story. And now, at last, it is Kayleigh’s turn to received the shillelagh.
Mine: This is a wonderful generational story about family traditions. The main object is to make sure that each generation understands – in this story it almost missed and generation and was lost forever. This is a story about what family’s history and how they immigrated to America.
What a wonderful story for St. Patrick’s Day

Back Cover: Dearest Movies Stars in Training,

I am THE happiest girl on the planet. A very famous Holiywood director is coming to our very own Movie House to run a film camp and – hold your breath – she is bringing her dreamy actor son with her. Can’t you just picture moi and the star of my very own romantic comedy?

Of course, there’s the small matter of Madeline, the beautiful, talented, and ultra-rich daughter of the famous Krupcake King (Gotta love those Krupcakes) She wants to star in the movie, too. But hey, I say let the best ach-TOUR win! Honestly, does life get any more fabulous?

XOXO, Maeve

Mine: This is a wonderful Young Adult series. I’ve read 2 so far and would highly recommend. There is wonderful story of relationships (Parents-children, Sister-Brother). It also is a story about listening to each other. Sometimes parents can be totally clueless. Why put two people that you know will not get along together. Maeve is into acting and her father owns a theatre (movie house) what could be better than to have a movie camp come to town. The only problem is the sponsor has a daughter who thinks she rules the world.
