Author Interview/Giveaway : Freakquency by Caddell Brown
• Little Blurb about yourself:
Caddell Brown, born and raised in East Texas, authors a range of speculative fiction. Among her early influences are artists Rene Magritte, film director Andrei Tarkovsky and authors Dan Simmons, Toni Morrison and Ai. It wasn’t until after taking a course in Creative Non-Fiction that she grasped what writing could be as a form of expression and while most of her works are fiction, there’s always something inside each story that touches on her years as an observant youth. Freakquency, her first novel under this penname, was inspired by the storytelling of her uncles, and other legends and folklore from around the world.
1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer?
My creative non-fiction writing teacher, modern American literature, Shakespeare and Roger Ebert.
2. How long did it take you to write (title of book you're promoting)?
The re-write of this work took about a year to complete. I had written a draft beforehand, but once I submitted the manuscript for editing, so began the re-write process.
3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?
I basically wrote this book about six times.
4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?
5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?
Usually about one, but when I’m busy, as I have been of late, that one carries over into the next month and the next.
6. In all the books you've read. Who is your most favorite character and why?
Sula from Toni Morrison’s Sula. She was a tragic character but someone I could identify with. She wasn’t “fine” or “all right”, she had issues in a time when Black women couldn’t afford to tend to their emotional needs because they had a family to take care of, a husband, etc.
7. State 5 random facts about yourself.
• I’m afraid of Spring time.
• I love fighter jets.
• I love picking blackberries.
• I love walking barefoot in the grass.
• I fear and respect the ocean.
8. Your favorite Genre?
Contemporary suspense, thriller with a bit of adventure and conspiracy. I’m fascinated with clandestine organizations, espionage and those who live in the shadows. Also I like a bit of romance in these type settings.
9. What are you currently reading?
I have about twenty books next to my bed. I can give you the book I just finished reading: Rivers by Michael Farris Smith. EXCELLENT
10. What is the best book you've read?
Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It is the best and most read of any of my favorite books.
11. Any new projects coming up?
A follow-up to Freakquency called Talisman. I’ll begin working on that project this Summer.

Rick has spent the last fifteen years of his life dedicated to music, touring the world, completely oblivious to the secrets coded in his legacy.
Meanwhile, Song Peters, a dutiful daughter taking care of a dying mother, dreams of the day she can break free of small town life and pursue her one true passion, singing. Rick meets Song and instantly sparks ignite.
They make beautiful music together and soon find that they share similar upbringings. Rick comes to learn that their families are supernaturally intertwined and that the one denominator (a demon by the name Nova) connected to both families threatens to destroy them all if they do not obey.
