Bookshelf Love Challenge

Perpetual (NO time limits - on going)

If you are a bookworm, you most likely have something called a TBR (to-be-read) -- be it a shelf, a pile, or a room with a maze-like path through the teetering paperback forest -- and, if you're anything like me, books that have been on it for months or even years. And yet, we keep buying more books. And visiting the library. And ordering ARCs (advance review copies). And entering giveaways. The bookshelf starts feeling neglected, sitting untouched except perhaps to have more novels shoved into every little available crevice.

I propose we show those bookshelves some love.

The point of this challenge is to read books you already own, and possibly clear some space on those over-loaded shelves. Pick a stack of books from your TBR shelf and set a time frame to read them in. This can range from a small stack you'll devour in a matter of weeks to clearing the whole TBR by the end of the year. Regardless, any books that remain untouched at the end of your challenge get donated, sold, given away, or recycled, leaving more space for books you love or those inevitable bagfuls you'll bring home from that upcoming library sale. Getting rid of books is not a requirement of the challenge (note the "guidelines" below), but it certainly adds some incentive!

Feel free to join me for any length of time during the next seven weeks (Feb. 2 - Mar. 22), which is the span of my personal challenge, or set your own time frame as mentioned above. I'll keep adding to the participants list for as long as I have people signing up so that we can follow each others' progress and offer encouragement. Just provide your name and a link to your challenge post in the comments below, and I'll update the list. No blog? No worries! You can post your challenge and updates on any social media outlet.

guidelines*
1. choose a time frame for your challenge
2. select a stack of unread books from your shelves/piles/boxes/book hoard
3. post a photo and/or list of the books on your blog or social media, along with the chosen time frame
4. use the challenge image in your post (if posting on a blog) and link back to this page
5. leave a link to your post in the comments below, so I can add you to the list of participants
6. read, read, read!
7. donate, sell, giveaway, or recycle any books still unread at the end of the challenge

*I use this term, and not "rules," intentionally. Make this challenge your own! It is typically helpful to choose a time frame for a reading challenge, though, and no cheating on #2!!! If it causes too much stress or you just can't bear to part with your dearly beloved books, you can forego #7. I don't blame you -- if I had the space, I'd keep mine, too!

Check out the blog post for this challenge.

Fun In the Sun Reading Challenge (#FunIntheSunRC)

May 1, 2016 - August 31, 2016

Something happens to me when it starts getting hot out. Sure I want to slip on my flip flops, go swimming, and drink some iced lattes but what I really get in the mood for is reading a certain genre of books that are about fun in the sun! So I'm hosting a seasonal challenge specifically for these books.

The Rules:
This short term challenge begins May 1, 2016 and ends Aug 31, 2016.

You may sign up anytime during the challenge.

I won't be creating different levels. Read as little or as many books as you want.

You may include books of any format including traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks.

Books may be any genre but must have a fun in the sun theme, a cover with these elements on it, or something in the title that is about the theme. This includes everything associated with spring and summer such as weddings, swimming pools, the ocean, beaches, lounge chairs, flowers, sunglasses, palm trees, vacations, the sun, a garden, rain, thunderstorms, heat and so on. If you need ideas visit my Pinterest boards forspring books and summer books.

You may reread books.

Books may count towards other reading challenges.

Use the hashtag #FunIntheSunRC

If you could be so kind, please place the Fun In the Sun Reading Challenge banner on your blog to help spread the word.
Please link back to this blog, post about it on Facebook, Tweet about it, and so on to help spread the word.-

Book Review: Dishing Up New Jersey: 150 Receipes from the Garden State from John Holl

Title: Dishing Up New Jersey: 150 Recipes from the Garden State
Author: John Holl
Publisher: Storey Publishing, LLC
ISBN: 9781612126661
Release: May 17, 2016
Pages: 288
Genre: Cookbook
Format: Paperback
Source: NetGalley

NetGalley: New Jersey native John Holl searched from Sussex County to Cape May to find the best recipes New Jersey has to offer, and the result is this rich and unique cookbook celebrating the foods, flavors, cultures, and traditions of the Garden State. These 150 recipes include dishes featuring New Jersey's own produce -- tomatoes, corn, cranberries, blueberries, apples -- along with deep-fried boardwalk treats, late-night diner bites, and recipes contributed by casinos, bison and dairy farms, food trucks, old-school delis, famous bakeries, and more… Beautifully photographed, this collection is the ultimate tribute to New Jersey's best.

Mine: Let me start out by saying I’m not a great cook – but I love to read and look at cookbooks.

I especially like regional cookbooks to see what is popular in a certain area.

In looking at Dishing Up New Jersey, I realize it is near the ocean so there was a lot of seafood (scallops, oysters, clams) recipes, but then there were a nice variety of ethnic recipes and other recipes using local goods.

They highlighted small area farms and shops throughout the book along with recipes from some of these locations. The photography was fantastic.

My favorites dished were: Boardwalk Fudge, Rosemary-Citrus Soda Syrup and Cucumber Dill Salad.

*I received a free ARC of The Dishing Up New Jersey from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*

GRAND FINALE BLITZ/#Giveaway : The Bad Boy's Baby by Cindi Madsen (Harlequin Bliss)

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Book Tour Grand Finale for

The Bad Boy's Baby
By Cindi Madsen

We hope you enjoyed learning a little about Cam, Emma, and their daughter Zoey as they navigate family and the possibility of love. If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out...

Launch - Interview with the Author

Q: What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read The Bad Boy’s Baby?

A: I hope that they get a feel for Hope Springs and the fun characters who live there. I hope that they laugh and swoon as they watch Emma and Cam figure out how to do the co-parenting thing, and that they have a big smile on their face when they finish reading it.

LibriAmoriMiei - Review

"This novel is a real treat, a really sweet and romantic love story. The good girl, the bad guy and an adorable two year old baby, it's really hard not to love this romance. . . I highly recommend this one!"

The Written Adventure - Hope Spring’s Town Setting

Hope Springs is a tiny town in Wyoming where everyone knows everyone, one of the town committee members has CIA-type spy skills, despite her grandmotherly exterior, and events like picnic basket auctions are a yearly thing. There’s also a quilting group that has the beat on the happenings in town, whether it’s gossip or who’s in need of meals and extra support.

With Love for Books - Review

"There are plenty of heartwarming scenes and the ending is wonderful. If you're looking for a great small town love story, this is definitely a book you should read."

Booksomereads - Review

"The Bad Boy's Baby is a fun and easy contemporary romance read that is a perfect addition to anyone's spring or summer reading pile."

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Guest Post: 10 Things a New Dad Learns

1. Keeping toddlers away from mud and water is harder than it sounds.
2. You have to spell things involving favorite foods and movies to avoid the meltdowns mentioning them without having them ready brings on.

Colorimetry - Coming Home for Cam Brantley

Cam Brantley was known as the Hope Spring’s bad boy, right along with his brother, and his dad never had that great of a reputation, either. As soon as Cam turned eighteen he escaped town and his rough childhood to serve in the Army. His main motivation for coming home is to put hectic missions and bad memories behind him and run a mountain lodge with his brother.

Becky on Books - Review

"The playful back-and-forth between him and Emma (especially their trash talking competitions–building furniture, fishing–that they participated in) was a whole lot of fun to read. And watching Zoey whip him into shape as a dad? Priceless.

This book practically had me smiling from start to finish."

underneath the covers - 10 Things You Wouldn’t Know About a Bad Boy

He was always curious about the town’s golden girl who forever had her hand up in high school, all the answers on the tip of her tongue. . .

Harlie's Books - Review

"I loved their chemistry from the get go. Great dialogue, being friends and parents first and actually getting to know each other without the smexy times. Connecting on so many different levels besides Zoey, made for a great time watching them fall in love with each other."

Zerina Blossom's Books - Top Ten Favorite Romances

I love talking favorite romances. The hard part is narrowing it down. But here are my favorite romances, from books to movies to TV shows. . .

EskieMama Reads - Review

"This was a fun, heartwarming read if you are looking for a good weekend read with laughs, family & friends, a spunky senior citizen, an adorable 2 year old, second chance romance & a bad boy this book is for you. This was the first book I read by Cindi Madsen & it sure won't be the last. . ."

Getting Your Read On - Review

"This is a great story of second chance love. . . . I enjoyed this book and it's characters. It was easy to settle in and get carried away in the fantastic drama of Cam and Emma's lives."

deal sharing aunt - Interview

Q: What would you like my readers to know?

A: Well, I’d like to say hello-HI!-and that if you’re looking for a fun, flirty story that will hopefully make you laugh, those are the kind of books I love to write. Of course I think bookish people are some of the best people too. Finding people who can talk reading and books and getting lost in a story is always great.

Kindle and Me - Review

"I liked how realistic their issues were and how they resolved them together. I loved watching Cam turn into a family man and how he adored his daughter. I loved how Emma was grounded but also aware she had a daughter to provide for. . . . I liked the chemistry between Cam and Emma. I sighed at the end."

The Bad Boy's BabyThe Bad Boy's Baby
(Hope Sptings #3)
by Cindi Madsen
Adult Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 284 pages
May 16th 2016 by Entangled: Bliss

There are certain words that have always described Cam Brantley: Town bad boy. Soldier. Protector. But never, ever dad. Until he returns home from his latest military tour to discover the girl he had one smoking-hot night with is now mom to the adorable two-year-old Zoey. Who has his eyes.

Plenty of words could describe Emma Walker these days. Mom, dutiful granddaughter, budding designer, the town’s golden child. But when her longtime crush Cam Brantley comes back to town, she knows the perfect word to describe herself: screwed.

Cam and Emma are both shocked to discover he truly wants Zoey in his life. But Cam’s not sure he’s ready to be a dad, and Emma can’t gamble her daughter on maybes. As the long-simmering heat between Cam and Emma reaches a boiling point, he’ll have to work past his demons in order to be the man both girls need.

Daddy duty might be his toughest mission yet…

Except that Quinn's not the only person bidding on it. Worse still, her competitor is her high school crush, Heath Brantley, who is all kinds of ripped, tattooed hotness...

So much for her "nice, conservative boys" rule.

But when their rivalry shifts into an unexpected zing of chemistry, Heath realizes he's in deep trouble. Because it's inevitable that emotions will get involved, and he needs to keep his eyes on the prize before they both get hurt.

Cindi Madsen is a USA Today Bestselling author of contemporary romance and young adult novels. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting, revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she'd be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they're sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.
