Author Interview : Tempted in the Tropics by Tracy March

Little Blurb about yourself:
I write lighthearted romances inspired by my real-life happily ever after. I also write romantic thrillers influenced by my career in the pharmaceutical field, and my interest in science and politics.
Always up for travel and adventure, I’ve flown in a stunt plane, snowmobiled on the Continental Divide, ziplined in the Swiss Alps, and been chased by a bull in the mountains of St. Lucia. I love Nationals baseball, Saturday date nights, and Dairy Queen Blizzards—and rarely go a day without Diet Coke and Cheez-Its.
I live in Yorktown, Virginia, with my superhero husband who works for NASA. We recently spent two years living in Washington D.C., and enjoy visiting often—especially when the Nats are in town.

1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer?

I used to work in the pharmaceutical field where I faced a great deal of pressure to meet super-sized sales goals. I turned to writing fiction to alleviate some of my real-world stress, with the hope of someday becoming a full-time author and ditching the pharma job. I’m happy to say that my wish has come true!

I have admired author Sandra Brown forever, and I love reading her books. So I’d say she played a big role in inspiring my writing style. I was a star-struck fan girl when I got the chance to meet her last year!

2. How long did it take you to write Tempted in the Tropics?

It took me a couple of months to write the first draft, then another month to revise and polish.

3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?

I do revisions based on my editor’s feedback, but I’ve never gone back and actually rewritten a plot. That may be because I do a fair amount of plotting before I write—or just good luck!

4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?

To the Starbuck’s counter to get a Chai tea latte! Then I usually browse the new release shelves.

5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?

LOL! Maybe one—if that. One of the reasons I started writing was because I love to read. Now that I write for a living, I rarely have time to read. I miss it so much! It’s a rare treat for me to relax with a good book, but I do squeeze in a little reading time when I’m working out on my elliptical machine.

6. In all the books you've read. Who is your most favorite character and why?

I loved Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. She’s passionate and strong, intelligent and thoughtful. Even so, she nobly endures the shame and alienation from her Puritan community. Living the life of a loner, she becomes contemplative about human nature, social organization, and larger moral questions. This leads her to become a freethinker—my favorite kind of heroine! Hester ultimately becomes a compassionate maternal figure in the community, and by the end of the story, the shame attached to her scarlet letter is gone. Guess you could say hers is a “classic” happily-ever-after.

7. State 5 random facts about yourself.

1. I have a thing for hot guys in baseball uniforms.
2. My favorite color is blue (but not navy).
3. I have 15 nieces and nephews (and four in-law nieces and nephews!).
4. I prefer the mountains to the beach.
5. I once went down into the copper mines in Santiago, Chile—miner’s hat and all!

8. Your favorite Genre?

My favorite genre to write is contemporary romance, yet I enjoy reading in lots of genres—romance, paranormal, suspense, literary, non-fiction. My TBR stack is really random!

9. What are you currently reading?

Personal Assets, a sass-kickin’ romance by my friend Kelsey Browning. It’s the first in her steamy Texas Nights series—full of sexy fun and lots of laugh-out-loud moments.

10. What is the best book you've read?

The Scarlet Letter is my all-time favorite. I even wrote my senior-year thesis paper on the themes in the book!

11. Any new projects coming up?

I’m currently working on the last book in my Suddenly Smitten series that features the super-sexy Caribbean resort tycoon, Trent Hawthorne, who’s introduced in Tempted in the Tropics.

Here’s your chance to market your book. Describe it. And why readers should pick it up?

In Tempted in the Tropics, nothing’s more important to Paige Ellerbee than her struggling bakery, Sweet Bee’s. When Lane Anderson, the temporary new doctor hot enough to rival McDreamy, moves in next door, though, she’s sure things are looking up. Until he threatens her business in their first conversation.

Lane just wants to practice medicine responsibly—not argue with the flighty bakery owner next door. But when he finds himself traveling down to the Caribbean to play guitar for Paige’s best friend’s wedding, suddenly the sight of the blonde in a bikini eclipses the fact they can’t agree on anything. And as their vacation romance grows, his reservations about starting something after getting burned by love are washed away like sand on the beach.

But once Paige and Lane land back home, will these polar opposites be able to forgive their feud and find lasting love?

I hope readers will pick up Tempted in the Tropics because they like sweet-and-sassy, make-you-happy love stories. One early reviewer said the story has “the perfect blend of romance, laughter, and passion.” While Tempted in the Tropics can be read as a standalone, it also features characters from the first book in the Suddenly Smitten series, The Practice Proposal. Another review said, “The characters from the first book in this series were seamlessly part of this second book, and I liked knowing how their friendships continued.” And last, but not least, yet another awesome reviewer wrote, “The author does an excellent job of creating sexy seduction scenes that sizzle with heat.” So c’mon...join Paige and Lane down in the tropics for some sultry romance!
