Author Interview: Grace Doll by Jennifer Laurens

Little Blurb about yourself:

I write YA books. Whatever my heart desires, I write. I don't have someone over my shoulder, in some office somewhere telling me what I can and cannot write. Or should and shouldn't write. I listen to my heart, the center of my muse, and trust my instincts.

1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer?

I've written since I was in 6th grade: plays, books. From the beginning writing has been about bringing joy to readers.

2. How long did it take you to write Grace Doll?

About 8 months.

3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?

I'd already written this story as a comedy screen play, and as a drama screen play and as an adult novel, so I didn't have to go back -- I knew the plot well.

4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?

The cafe. :) For a specialty drink.

5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?

One if I'm lucky.

6. In all the books you've read. Who is your most favorite character and why?

Yikes! I'm not sure I can narrow it down, but two are in the same book: Roxanne and Luke in Nora Roberts' Honest Illusions. Sparks fly off the page with those two! They're engaging, delightful and absolutely alive.

7. State 5 random facts about yourself.

I read my favorite books over and over again. I sing opera. I have 'creative' pet names for everyone. My pets are named after my favorite book characters. I'm a mocha addict.

8. Your favorite Genre?

YA romance

9. What are you currently reading?

I'm re-reading ( see? didn't I say this above ?) Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller--a five star read.

10. What is the best book you've read?

I can't narrow it down to one but Endless Love is beautifully written. Drool-worthy.

11. Any new projects coming up?

Yep. Three I'm working on simultaneously.

Thanks for reading Grace Doll and having me!

Jennifer

About the Author:

I write YA books. Whatever my heart desires, I write. I don't have someone over my shoulder, in some office somewhere telling me what I can and cannot write. Or should and shouldn't write. I listen to my heart, the center of my muse, and trust my instincts.

I've written since junior high school. An only child, I grew up writing big stories about big families. I also write YA under the name of JM Warwick. My hometown of Palos Verdes, California figures in much of my work, as does my current home of Pleasant Grove, Utah and other favorite places. I love to travel.

They say "write what you know" and I do. I am a mother, I have six children, five cats and a huge doberman/dane dog. I have a supportive husband and we've been married 25 years. Our lives, though challenging with a handicapped child who has autism, are centered in our family.

My life experiences have worked into all of my novels. Some more heavily than others, but parts of me are in each story. I love stories rich in family drama, where family members overcome obstacles through love and miracles.
