Author Interview: Midnight Fire Series by Kaitlyn Davis

Little Blurb about yourself:

I grew up in the suburbs of NYC and I have always always wanted to be an author! When I was little, I wrote books by scribbling on construction paper that was very professionally bound by duct tape. And if I was particularly proud of a story, I would force my family to sit while I read it aloud… thank goodness my parents never videotaped it! I wrote terribly sappy romances in high school and then, after graduating from college, I got the idea for Ignite and decided to go for it!

1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer?

I've always loved telling stories—I'm not sure when it started! Gobbling up books and writing down my daydreams has always been second nature. But in high school, I had a phenomenal English teacher who helped show me that writing could become so much more than just an obsessive hobby—it could become a career.

2. How long did it take you to write Scorch?

A few months! Lots of outlining, writing, editing… and more editing.

3. While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?

I always start with a very thorough outline, so the main aspects of my plot are usually planned before I even start writing the actual book. But of course, genius can strike at the most annoying time! If I get a great idea, I'll scrap a few chapters and start over.

4. You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?

Young adult section! I browse some awesome covers, read some annoyingly intriguing inside flaps, and then head to the discount counter for something to buy… and then head back to the YA section for the book I really really want to read…

5. How many books in a month do you tend to read?

Yikes! No idea! At least one a week, but if I'm in a writing lull and just finished a project, I can easily devour ten books in one week!

6. In all the books you've read. Who is your most favorite character and why?

Hermione! She's a bookworm, a best friend and a babe. And she lands Ron Weasley. Nuff said!

7. State 5 random facts about yourself.

1) I'm scarily obsessed with puppies.
2) I chipped a tooth while surfboarding.
3) I'm a complete candy cane hoarder around Christmastime.
4) I love chick flicks—the cheesier, the better!
5) I detox with reality TV… and justify it as character research.

8. Your favorite Genre?

Well, first and foremost, anything I read has GOT to have some romance. No love story, no Kaitlyn! But other than that? Almost anything! Paranormal, fantasy, historical, chick lit, contemporary.

9. What are you currently reading?

Beautiful Creatures! After that I'm finally going to start the Delirium Trilogy. I only like starting a series after all of the books are published—I'm way too impatient to wait between books or I would have started it ages ago!

10. What is the best book you've read?

Too many! Sorry—I can never choose favorites!

11. Any new projects coming up?

Of course! I'm working on a completely new series (set in a magical, fantasy world!), and I'm also thinking of some spin-offs from the Midnight Fire Series.

Here’s your chance to market your book. Describe it. And why readers should pick it up?

There is heart-pumping action, heart-stopping romance, characters you will fall in love with and scenes that will keep you reading until dawn – what else could you want in a book?
