“A warm
shiver trails from the very top of my arms all the way to my toes as his hands
gently move to hold my shoulders. Slowly, they trail down, rising my skin in
their wake. My breath is held and everything inside me springs tight when his
body presses just enough for mine to absorb his warmth and to feel the firmness
that I recently learned is part of him. He brushes my hair over my shoulder
with his chin. A tidal wave of heat spirals below my waist once his warm, minty
breath hovers closely, and his bristled cheek softly grazes my flushed one.

He halts
for a long moment.

“What are
you doing?” I croakily breathe.

“Waiting
for you to stop me.” His voice is rasp and low and reaches to every single part
of my alert body.

and mind speed at a hazardous velocity while I struggle for my next move. The

By teen age, Sigal already lived in three different continents where she was lucky enough to experience and visit varied places, meet unique people, which only helped fuel her overly developed imagination. Currently, Sigal calls Estonia home where she lives with her husband and three kids.

Justin and Spencer butt heads constantly; both are stubborn and willful, neither one wanting to give an inch. Spencer needs to find out what the killers are up to, so he swallows his pride and forms a bond with the boy. Spencer relays to Justin his past and together with the help of Justin’s girlfriend, Shahla; they discover the hacker’s plans. Spencer has broken down Justin’s reserve and he finally learns the meaning of unselfish love.

But it’s too late, the hackers have captured them.

Can Spencer maul the shins (and other choice areas) of his kidnappers and stop them from their evil plan?

10 Things You Might Not Know About K-9 Cop by Erna Mueller


1.) It’s about a surly cop who lands before the gates of heaven but can’t get in, and about Justin, a 14 year-old teenager who’s trying to find himself. The cop’s only chance to enter heaven is to go back to earth in the body of his K-9 partner and help Justin and his dysfunctional family.

2.) My book K-9 Cop is adapted from my screenplay “A New Leash on Life”; it received many screenwriting awards, for instance 1st place at the Huston International Film Festival and the Hollywood Screen Writing Institute among others.

3.) As a first time writer it was difficult to find a production company that would back my screenplay. An agent suggested I adapt my screenplay into a book to gain recognition. I am very happy I took the advice since I found the novel writing process more rewarding.

4.) After adapting my screenplay into a novel titled “K-9 Cop” it won 1st place in The Good Read Competition at awomenswrite.com.

5.) Once the novel was completed I sent out numerous query letters to agents and publishing houses and no one wanted to read a chapter of a first time novelist. I can start a bonfire with the rejection letters I’ve received. And get ready to hear from Literary Agencies that their roster is full and can’t accept any new authors, but the majority of publishers do not accept any unsolicited manuscripts. For me, self-publishing was the only way out of this maze.

6.) This is a young adult book for tweens and teenagers. But keep in mind K-9 Cop is definitely not adult repellent. Readers of all ages seem to enjoy my book.

7.) I wrote this book because I love the creativity, unearthing a new world with your imagination. Breathing life into your characters and giving words a heartbeat. It’s very cathartic.

8.) I love animals and their relationship to humans. I also love the story of redemption and second chances, which is what K-9 Cop is all about. Dogs are amazing in their drive to please their masters. They overcome obstacles like a Navy Seal and do the job for the joy of it.

9.) I thought a Young Adult book would be a great idea to write for a first time novelist. I always loved family orientated books and movies and was searching for a story that depicts the human condition with all its splendor and frailties. What better way than through a surly cop who has to go back to earth in the body of his K-9 partner

About the Author

I was born in Austria and my family immigrated to the U.S. I loved living here as a child and considered the U.S. my home. My family returned to Austria and of course I had to tag along. I missed the friendly faces and the cultivation of the free spirit which America symbolizes. In Austria I completed my education but always wanted to return, so here I am.
I traveled the world and lived in many exciting cities such as Paris, Munich and London. I currently work as an accountant for a large pizza company in Seattle by day and passionately pursue a career as a writer in my spare time.

Fairy High could have fit into one wing of my old school. “You ready?” he asked.
“For lunch?” I winked.
“For whatever,” he said, an earnest smile on his face. CJ and I had a complicated relationship. There was a mutually acknowledged attraction between us, and I’d shared the two very best kisses of my life with him. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t part of my plan to get involved with someone at work—for a whole slew of reasons. So despite our incredible chemistry, we were doing our best to enjoy a friendship instead. But CJ made no secret of his desire for more.
“Let’s start with lunch. I need to get out of here,” I said, grabbing my bag and coat.
“I’ll take whatever I can get.” CJ didn’t move as I approached the door of my office, and I had to squeeze between him and the doorframe. The proximity allowed me to get close enough to smell the minty leathery scent that surrounded him. My nerves always started firing when I got that close to him, and I pushed past him quickly, blushing. He stood still just a beat longer as I waited for him to get going, and I was fairly certain that he had leaned in to smell my hair before finally stepping from the doorway.
We wandered to a Korean barbecue that was on the second floor of a nearby building. I would never have ventured in on my own—the signs were in Korean and the place was clearly a favorite with those who knew what constituted good Korean. Luckily, CJ had done this before.
We were seated in a private booth next to the window overlooking the street below. A small grill was built into the table in front of us, and CJ grinned at me as I looked around with great interest.

“Nope. Totally carnivorous.” I smiled, part of me embarrassed. When I was with CJ, it seemed like even my most innocuous statements took on an unintended sexual tone. “Why, will this be a meat-heavy meal?” There it was again. I flushed.
CJ was grinning at me again, the full lips pulled wide to reveal the adorable dimples on either side of his jaw. He shook his head slightly, the dark eyes shining. Evidently, I wasn’t the only one getting the innuendos that seemed to keep falling out of my mouth. “Yeah. Fairly meat heavy.”
Our lunch arrived, and it turned out that we would be cooking it ourselves. The grill in the middle was lit for us and each of us had a long fork that we used to put strips of raw meat onto the grill and pull them off. We also had kimchi to compliment the meat. It was a unique experience, and I found CJ smiling at me at several points as I tended to my barbecuing.
“What?” I asked him at one point toward the end of the meal. “Am I that much a novice? Are you laughing at me?”
“No,” he said, his face finally serious. “I just … Natalie. This is hard for me. I want more.”

About the Author

I'm not the typical author. I didn't always enjoy reading or writing.
While in school, I found it to be a chore I'd just as soon skip. I would rather
have been daydreaming, my favorite past time. It wasn’t until I grew up and
didn’t have to, that I realized reading was fun. I soon discovered that reading
fueled my daydreaming. So, remembering a short story I'd written in high school,
I began imagining expanding that story into a book. Before long I found I had
loads of ideas for not just the short story but other books and stories as
well. Fast forward a few years, a lot of studying about writing, practicing my
writing, studying some more, taking classes from people who knew what they were
doing, studying and practicing yet more, and ta-dah, author! In the same way I
had learned I loved reading, I learned I loved writing, too. It’s just that
writing is a lot harder than reading.

I chased after him, laughter spilling from my throat. I could hear him laughing, too. I wasn’t far behind. When I got to the dune and climbed up behind him, my legs ached. He clasped his hands around my wrists and tugged me up beside him.

“No, I’m fine.” I was more than fine. The shiver was from total relaxation, from being immersed in the moment.
His head tilted to the side, and his eyes studied mine. Then, he reached up, took my hand, and lowered it from my face. “It bothers you, doesn’t it? Your birthmark?”
I blinked a few times and focused on a patch of sea grass by my foot. “I guess.”
“It shouldn’t. It’s not like a big, hairy wart or something.” He squeezed my hand. His laugh was tender. “It’s actually cute—like a beauty mark.”
“Right.” I rolled my eyes. The last thing I could accept was compliments on my birthmark. “It’s gorgeous.”
He put my leg down and wrapped his arm around me. “Lauren?”
“Yeah?”
“I want to kiss you.”
Before I could see it happen, he’d cupped my chin, and his lips were against mine. They felt amazing, full and soft. His kisses were gentle. He didn’t overwhelm me, and I liked him even more for that.

Jamie Blair lives in Northeast Ohio with her husband, their two kids and a cat that broke into their house and refused to leave. She won a young author's contest in third grade, but it probably shouldn't count since her mom wrote most of her entry. LEAP OF FAITH is her first novel.
