Author Interview: FemDom by Tony Cane-Honeysett

Describe your book in five words or less.
Sweet woman gets kinky revenge.
How did the ideas for your books come to you?
I write stories that I would like to read myself. They just hit me and stay in my head until I write them. That means I carry around a lot of stuff in my noggin. While I write one story, I always have others rattling around up there. In fact, I have a few stories that have been taking up my mental real estate for many years and are still unfolding and forming in my subconscious
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Do you live to work, or do you work to live?
What is the hardest part of writing for you? What's the easiest?
I don’t find writing remotely difficult. For me, it’s very easy to do but then I’ve been trained to be a writer from the age of 22. I got into the ad biz straight out of college as a copywriter and you find out pretty early on that you have deadlines to meet. You are under the gun and there’s real pressure to produce creative ad copy on time. Miss deadlines and you could be out of a job pretty fast. That’s a great motivator to write.
What's next for you? Are you currently working on or have plans for future projects?
I have multiple projects. Half way through ‘Regression’ my next novel and I have a third upstairs in my brain bursting to get out.
Why did you choose to write for specific genre?
I didn’t choose the genre of erotica, rather it chose me. My book is about the ad biz and the politics and bullshit of the business but the added twists of a dominatrix, gives the story a kinky element that slides it into the genre of erotic fiction.
What's it like hearing that readers are eagerly awaiting your book's release date?
Scary and exciting. I want readers to love the story or get angry at the story. I want it to create emotion in them. I’m even okay with people not liking the story. As long as they think it was well written. Because it’s the craft of writing and the wordsmithery of it all that intrigues and motivates me. After all, there are a million ways to say the same thing. How do you write something ordinary to give it new life with a fresh voice?
What is one question that you've always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?
Why do you write when you are so busy making films, taking photographs, and writing and recording songs? Answer - Because I love the simplicity and power of words on a page. You don’t need fancy equipment or have to learn sophisticated computer software programs to tell a story. You just need a pencil and a piece of paper to create new, alternate worlds and characters which you have total creative control over. I find that refreshingly rewarding. Maybe it’s playing God that feeds my ego, too.
What was your road to publications like?
After many months of submitting query letters to agents and not getting a single request for my manuscript, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I mean, I can handle rejection but at least read the novel before disregarding it. I can deal with that but I never even got that far with any agent or book publisher! So, together with a small group of other disenchanted writers, we formed Chardonnay Press, our self-managed imprint, to publish our own work. It’s exciting. The internet has blown the doors off the traditional publishing business model.
